Myers Announces Recruiting Class for the 2011 Season

UVA Women's Lacrosse, courtesy UVa Media RelationsVirginia head women's lacrosse coach Julie Myers announced the signing of 10 student-athletes to national letters of intent to play for the Cavaliers beginning with the 2010-11 academic year.

Joining the program will be Elizabeth Blue (Butler, Md./Garrison Forest), Dana Boyle (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry), Elizabeth Colgan (Hunt Valley, Md./Notre Dame Prep), Christine Donovan (Hungham, Mass./Brooks School), Madeline Fabiani (McLean, Va./Potomac School), Meghan Helm (Ellicott City, Md./Notre Dame Prep), Madeline Keeshan (Greenwich, Conn./Deerfield Academy), Leigh Ruland (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's), Katie Slater (Kensington, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) and Ashley Warner (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post East High)

"We're fortunate to have this large of a class filled with great players coming our way," Myers said. "We couldn't be more excited to have each of them be a part of Virginia lacrosse. They represent six different states and are all tremendous student-athletes in both the classroom and on the field. We have been interested in each of them for a long time and are fortunate and excited to get them here."

Elizabeth Blue is a first-team All-American from Garrison Forest. A Butler, Md., native, Blue was an Academic All-American in 2009 and was honored as an IAAM A Conference All-Star. The midfielder was also named a member of the Tewaaraton High School Watch List.

Dana Boyle was a 2009 first-team All-American as a midfielder for Londonderry. A Londonderry, N.H., native, Boyle is a three-time first-team all-state selection and earned honorable mention All-America honors as a sophomore.

Liz Colgan is a goalie from Hunt Valley, Md. A teammate of fellow recruit Helm at Notre Dame Prep, Colgan was named a Towson Times girls first-team all-star in 2009. She also participated in the National School Girls Lacrosse Tournament and was a member of the Under Armour Underclassmen Team.

Christie Donovan is a two-time All-American from Brooks School in Hingham, Mass. A midfielder, Donovan has earned All-ISL honors throughout her first three seasons and was named a team all-star twice.

Maddy Fabiani, from McLean, Va., was named to the 2008 Virginia All-State team as a midfielder. Fabiani led the Potomac School to the 2008 Division II State Championship and to the semifinals of the 2009 Division I state championships.

Meghan Helm is a defender from Notre Dame Prep and a current teammate of fellow recruit Colgan. Helm hails from Ellicott City, Md., and was named an IAAM A Conference All-Star, a Towson Times First-Team All-Star and an academic All-American.

Madeline Keeshan is a native of Greenwich, Conn. Keeshan attends Deerfield Academy, where she earned the Benjamin C. Haviland Trophy for girl's varsity lacrosse. She was also the recipient of the Jennie Maria Arms Sheldon Award in 2009 for achievement on the sports field as well as in academics.

Leigh Ruland is a midfielder from Annapolis, Md. A Parvis Scholar for maintaining a 4.0 grade point average at St. Mary's High School, Ruland is also a member of the National Honor Society, was named all-country and an IAAM All-Star for cross country, in addition to earning All-Galaxy honors for lacrosse.

Katie Slater is an honorable mention All-American attacker from Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington, Md. Slater was named to the Washington Post All-Met team and earned Washington Catholic Athletic Conference first-team honors.

Ashley Warner is a midfielder from Corning-Painted Post East High School in Corning, N.Y. As a junior, Warner earned US Lacrosse All-America status, Corning Leader Player of the Year accolades and first-team all-league honors.

The 2010 Cavaliers will open their season at home on Saturday, Feb. 20 against Loyola.
