I claim this first UVa fan post...
Welcome to my insanity. I've been waiting for this moment for a long time...
So, this my first fan post, huh? I was originally going to tell my favorite UVa sports memory, but I think I'll let that wait till later. A good introduction, well, introduces yourself, so I guess I'll get to that. Born and raised by a mother who grew up in Crozet (yes! that little town that you only know by an exit sign!), it only seemed natural to me shout and roar for the dear ol' UVa. I've become a fan of many other teams in different sports over the years (including the college I actually attend, JMU), but I come here to get my UVA fandom on as I once did with vigor when I was younger. The first year I remember intently following UVa sports was Pete's last year (I have a vague, vague memory of George's last game. I was like 11 years old, and my mom seemed sad. That's it.). It was clear that the basketball program was not going in the right direction (I remember Pete as a hell of a recruiter, but a lousy ingame coach). And then the Leitao era began. This guy seemed to be doing all the right things. Hell, we even won an NCAA tournament game in impressive fashion (I will get to the Tennessee game in another fan post, I am still bitter over that)! As time dragged on, however, I realized the harsh reality was that Leitao's success was built upon Pete's impressive recruiting ability. And the longer Leitao stayed, the emptier Pete's cupboard got, and Dave's flaws began to become exposed. I was fortunate to meet him in person my senior year of high school, as he was going after James McAdoo, a good friend of mine and a current UNC commit. He was seriously considering going to UVA, and Dave decided to stop by (as many other bigtime coaches had), and talked to James. I remember how tall he was...it was almost intimidating. He was very gracious as I was excitedly peppering him with questions as to when Mikalauskas would return from his surgery. When Sean finally said goodbye (I was there! I even have the game information book from the Maryland game! And I'll eventually make a fan post completely devoted to SS44), I knew Leitao's days were numbered. The fact that we were so desperate to aim for the CIT just put the nail in the coffin. I don't feel like I can adequately judge the Bennett era after just one year, so I will withhold comment for now.
And that's it for today. Next time, I'll go into my UVA football experience...let's just say...I remember 2 seasons positively, one barely positive. Maybe it will help me forget this.

Don't forget about Syl
Dave didn’t rely solely on Pete’s cupboard — he had a heck of a recruit in Sylven Landesberg, though it’s a shame we couldn’t keep him around.
Also, don’t undersell Crozet. We also know it as the place with awesome pizza!
Looking forward to seeing your other thoughts!

Even a blind squirel....
Not to mention the disappointments, like Diane, who had so much potential but Dave simply couldn’t get the best of ’em.
Ha, I always hear that, but when I go up and visit family we haven’t had Crozet Pizza in a LONG TIME. That needs to change.
Most diverse sports fan you will ever meet. Literally.

GO HOOS!!!
Been waiting for a while for a UVA blog on sbnation. Glad its here!!

Glad to see...
UVA has a SBN blog. I was born and bred in Virginia, went to college there (not UVA however) and lived in VA for two years after graduating. I was always a big UVA fan even though most of my high school classmates went to and/or rooted for VT. I married a woman from Alabama and I got drawn into Alabama football. I now live in Birmingham and I’m a Crimson Tide football season ticket holder. So I’m a huge Bama fan, but I always root for the Wahoos whenever I can. Caught the UVA vs. Minn basketball game last night and was very impressed.
Go Hoos and Roll Tide!
here's hoping Phillip Sims
decides he’s frustrated and comes to VA. I’m not that intrigued with Newsome based off the reports of his progress, or lack thereof, at PSU, but Sims would be a nice get if we could add him for 3 years. McCarron looks real good, so if healthy, Alabama should be set.
Congratulations to the University of Virginia blog. We are getting close to 300 blogs here.
Good luck.
Why do canadians stick together? The same reason why Chris Horodecki turned his body and face around in his first WEC fight.

my story
Grew up in California, where I live again now. Attended UVA 99-03. Got to see some awesome stuff while I was there including being in the house when the basketball team took down Duke, and some great football performances. One that always stands out is an epic game against Georgia Tech – there were something like 5 or 6 TDs scored in the 4th quarter, and the Wahoos won it on a hook and ladder. I always regret not going to more lacrosse and baseball games.
If you don't like Brandon Medders you're not a true fan.
I was there for both of those games you’re talking about there. I used to be a member of the Hoo Crew for basketball…the guys with the ugly yellow shirts (“Keepin’ YOU in line!”). Also remember rushing the field after that GT game. I’ve always loved the hook and ladder ever since.

Why I'm a Wahoo fan
I honestly only lived in VA for 2 years, and that was for first and 2nd grade at Poquoson Elementary back in the day, but I had to draw some poster for healthy teeth and Terry Kirby came and handed me an award, and I’m pretty sure that was the day that I became a full-fledged UVA fan. Moved to MD in 3rd grade, so it was frustrating when UVA never really got over the hump, football and basketball=wise (although I still remember Jeff Jones bunch reaching the elite eight … that was awesome). I was a huge Harold Deane fan. Moved on to college, grad school, and other things, but didn’t go to a big time sports school and always kept my allegiance to UVA (although I’m partial to some other schools for a variety of reasons, but UVA always comes first).
I am excited about the London and Bennett regimes, though. Something feels good about it.
Finally!!!
I grew up in NOVA and have followed the Hoos for about 15 years, some good and some lean!!! While it seems everyone I know likes the Hokies, I always root for the CAVS! I’m glad that we finally have a blog to comment on!

Don't want to start a fanpost for this
but am very glad to hear that James Johnson will continue to redshirt this season. There’s a part of me that was intrigued with adding a 2nd post player that could potentially score, but let’s face it, UVA isn’t going to make a surprising NCAA tourny run this year, and having Johnson for four more years makes this program stronger, while also balancing out the classes a bit better. That said, I had really hoped that they would’ve redshirted Akil Mitchell initially, as he seems like the type of guy that could use a year to develop.
Regan and Mitchell getting time should help for the long run as well. If Mitchell plays the 4, that gives us a more athletic squad, and if he develops, that could cause some matchup problems for opposing teams.
As a side note, here’s hoping that KT Harrell gets more consistent as he gets more experience.
can't wait
I don’t know about anyone else, but I can’t wait for exams to be over and conference play to begin, I love UVA basketball, well I love them in every sport. theres nothing to do now except watch the celtics knicks game highlight on ESPN, no UVA basketball and I can’t go anywhere because of the snow
Just one more day! Tomorrow is GAME DAY!
