The SB Nation DC site put up a post today regarding the murder case of Yeardley Love, allegedly by former UVA lacrosse player George Huguely. We all know the background story to this already. Among the charges are felony murder, robbery, burglary, statutory burglary and grand larceny. Because the charge is felony, and not capital, murder, capital punishment is not on the table. According to reports, the trial is scheduled to begin in February of 2012. We will provide periodic updates on this case here on Streaking the Lawn, but do not expect too much comment from us on this. This is a case that affects many of our current and former players, if not directly on a legal level, certainly on a personal one. Given that this site is intended to celebrate the successes of our programs and analyze its shortcomings, I am making an editorial decision not to provide round-the-clock coverage on this now-tangential matter. Both teams are ranked in the top ten. Both teams are about to enter into ACC Tournament play. Both teams have Tewaaraton Award nominees (Steele Stanwick and Liz Downs). Both teams are expected to make a splash in the post-season. Let's focus on these, and let the players focus on the games in front of them.
