He's got a point. Why can't we be better at the pigskin?

We can
But you can’t turn a program around on a dime.
I loved President Casteen, but I don’t think he had the right, uhm… focus for balancing athletics and academics. He was an academically minded fellow. President Sullivan came from Michigan, and I think she sees there can be a balance and we can excel at both. But it takes time to build that base. Frank Beamer went 2-8 in his sixth season at Virginia Tech, I mean, c’mon now.
And it doesn’t help we had one of the best teams in the country sixty years ago, and then got cut off at the knees by Darden when he refused to let us get into post season play. Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, they’ve never let up, not for the last hundred years or so.
Welsh started with a far worse mess and got to 8-2-2 in his third season.
His fifth season wasn’t good, but after that they were good from 1987 to 1999. London probably isn’t as good a coach as Welsh (very few are).
Have to give London at least two more seasons to show progress. By then this year’s freshmen will be ready to play well.
