Perry Jones injury: Virginia RB suffered concussion Saturday

Kevin Jairaj-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Virginia head coach Mike London said senior running back Perry Jones suffered a concussion on Saturday against Maryland.

Virginia Cavaliers senior running back Perry Jones suffered a concussion on Saturday against the Maryland Terrapins, according to head coach Mike London.

After rushing 37 times for 182 yards over the previous two games, Jones ran only 10 times for 23 yards on Saturday. His last carry of the game came with just under seven minutes to play in the third quarter. He was replaced in the lineup by Kevin Parks who played well, rushing for 129 yards on 17 carries.

Jones, who is Virginia's second-leading rusher with 318 yards, will now need medical clearance before being allowed to return to the field. He started all seven games this season and has started 20 straight games since the beginning of the 2011 season. It's unknown whether or not he will be able to keep that streak alive when the Cavaliers host the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday.

If Jones is unable to play, Parks will likely play a bigger role in the offense. He leads Virginia with 475 rushing yards and has averaged 5.1 yards per attempt.
