For more times than one would want or expect, the Virginia Cavaliers come into Durham as underdogs. The line opened at -2.5 but has moved just a little in Virginia's favor as the week progressed. Some have called today's matchup as the biggest in Durham in recent history, as many Devils fan see this as pivotal in their quest for their first bowl game since the end of prohibition (Duke fans to comment and yell at this post in 3...2...1...).
Big game for Virginia as well. The Hoos come into this at 2-3, which is not exactly where many were hoping at this point of the season, thinking that they'd steal at least one of Georgia Tech, TCU, or hey, even Louisiana Tech, because come on, WAC. Yet with how strong those teams are, it wasn't surprising to many to see a slow 2-3 start. But by all accounts, preseason expectations for Virginia include three straight wins to start off October, and it begins today against Duke.
And of course, Phillip Sims has stepped up to take his fan-annointed second coming status.
