Mike London & Virginia went into Boston College's territory and snagged 3-star Guard Jack McDonald (Photo: Jason O. Watson)
Virginia is one of the hottest teams in the nation on the recruiting trail right now. The Cavaliers added another prospect to the 2013 class Monday, when Guard Jack McDonald made his pledge. McDonald, a Massachusetts native, chose the UVA over his other two finalists, North Carolina and Boston College. The Dorchester product also held offers from Maryland, UConn, Miami, Duke, and UMass. McDonald is ranked a 3-star prospect by both Rivals and 247sports. This is Virginia's 14th commitment for the 2013 class, and the 5th in less than a fortnight.
At 6'5'' 275, McDonald obviously has good size for a college O-Lineman. The Boston College High standout is projected to play Guard in Charlottesville. McDonald's film is pretty impressive. I'm not really sure how high his level of competition is (the teams he played against didn't look that small though), but he mauls the man lined up opposite of him over and over. In run blocking, McDonald is good at using solid speed to get out on the edge, find a man to block, and putting him on the ground. Overall, he looks like a really nice fit for Bill Lazor's pro-style scheme.
McDonald is the 2nd Offensive Lineman in the class, joining Connecticut native Sadiq Olanrewaju. Virginia is still after New Jersey native Brad Henson, and a few other Offensive Linemen as well. At 14 commitments, Virginia's 2013 class is drawing closer to completion. UVA will hold spots for Taquan Mizzell and Wyatt Teller no matter what, but other than that its going to be interesting to see what major targets will pull the trigger in time to save themselves a spot in the class.
