I know I know, why would I want to talk about NEXT year when we're in the midst of an intriguing late season push to make the tourney THIS year... Well, because I can't help it! While I couldn't be more excited for what looks to be a great squad next year, I'm almost baffled as to how its going to work w/ 13 legitimate scholarship players. Here's how I break it down in terms of trying to figure out where the playing time will be divied up, somewhat of an informal depth chart if you will.
1: Jones, Perrantes, Hall.
2/3: Harris, Anderson, Nolte, Brogdon, Jesperson, Barnette.
4/5: Mitchell, Tobey, Gill, Atkins.
The way I see it, there's not enough minutes in the game to make all these guys happy. I thought I maybe had one issue figured out when Jesperson seemed to be shooting 5% from 3, but with his consistently strong defense and new-found shooting touch, certainly can't take him out of the mix. What do you guys think? Are we going to see any of these guys depart midseason ala last season? I've read Bennett prefers an 8 to 9 man rotation... If you had to eliminate just 3 guys from the rotation to get it down to 10 who would it be??? I've been thinking outside the box, and who knows if Bennett would ever do this or if the guys would even consider it, but what about redshirting Barnette and Atkins next year, giving them more time to develop their games. Then maybe an easier sell would be to redshirt one of the incoming pg's. I don't know, am I crazy? What other ideas are floating around out there or do you just assume a couple of guys will see the writing on the wall and leave for an opportunity for more playing time either before the season or during. Of course injuries play a major role in all of this but you certainly can't plan for that. Would love to hear from the STL staff on this one! Go Hoos.
