Virginia Signee: Jack McDonald

Jack McDonald will join fellow Massachusetts native Canaan Severin at UVa in 2013 - 247Sports

Jack McDonald
Position: Guard
Hometown (School): Dorchester, MA (Boston College High)
Height/Weight: 6'5'' 275 lbs
Committed to Virginia: 6/25/12
Lead Recruiter: Jim Reid

Virginia was able to snatch offensive lineman Jack McDonald from Boston College's prime recruiting territory, and make him a member of their 2013 class. McDonald was one of six players to commit to UVa during June, choosing the Hoos over offers from North Carolina, Boston College, Miami and others. McDonald projects as a guard in Steve Fairchild's pro-style offense. McDonald is a consensus 3-star prospect.

McDonald's film proves him to be a mauler at the guard position. Time and time again McDonald dominated the player on the other side of the ball, often driving him into the ground. At 6'5'' 275 lbs, the New England native already has great size for a college lineman. McDonald also has the athleticism to pull or get out to the second level and take down smaller defenders. Once Virginia gets him in a college weight program, McDonald can really unleash his potential.

Jack McDonald's recruitment was handled by Jim Reid, until he was let go after the 2012 season. Like all the other prospects that Reid and the others that were let go reeled in, there were some tense moments in McDonald's recruitment. When Boston College hired Steve Addazio, he went after McDonald hard and tried to flip him. In the end London and the new staff were able to keep McDonald on board, and he will be a nice addition to a group of talented linemen that have been brought in over the past few years. Like almost all offensive linemen, McDonald will almost surely redshirt, to get bigger and stronger. After that, the sky's the limit for him.
