Zack Jones followed in his brother's footsteps, and signed with the Cavaliers. Zack is the younger brother of now former UVa running back Perry Jones. The younger Jones will play wide receiver in Charlottesville, and also joins several Oscar Smith alums on the Virginia roster, including Tim Smith and Phillip Sims. Jones is a 3-star on both Rivals and 247Sports. The Chesapeake native is one of three wide receivers who signed with the Cavs in the 2013 cycle, along with Andre Levrone and Keeon Johnson.
Jones committed to the Hoos early, and only held one other offer, from Illinois. Of the three wideouts signing with Virginia, Jones is the smallest, and the quickest. Even though he is bigger than his brother Perry, you can see some similarity in their games watching film of Zack. Jones has solid speed, but even more, he has great wiggle. He can take a screen pass and make it into a big play, weaving in and out of defenders, picking up yards. At 6'0'', Jones is not a really small player, but he is quite elusive in the open field. At Virginia, Jones could be really valuable on short passes across the middle, as well as screens and reverses.
Zack Jones is another nice get for the Cavaliers from the "757." Coming from Oscar Smith, Jones could be a nice asset for UVa in the future, when they try to recruit at that school. Zack earned his offer after a great performance in the 2011 state championship game in Charlottesville, and Mike London let Perry be the one to tell him about his offer. At that point, it seemed like Jones was a lock to end up with UVa. Jones will probably redshirt his freshman season because the wide receiver group is pretty deep, but he has the potential to be an explosive playmaker on Virginia's pro-style offense.
