Caanan Brown made the call for the Hoos today, while on a visit to Charlottesville. Brown, a Clearwater, Florida native who is listed as a linebacker, becomes Virginia's 2nd 2014 commit at the position, joining J.J. Jackson. Brown is rated a 2-star prospect by Rivals and 247Sports. In addition to the Cavaliers, Brown also held an offer from UMass. Caanan is the 2nd commit Virginia has snagged from Florida in this recruiting cycle, after recent decommit Chris Nelson gave his verbal to UVa in August. Listed at 6'3" 225 lbs., Brown is shown in his highlights as both a linebacker and a defensive end. The Clearwater Central High star shows a burst off the snap of the ball, and the ability to chase down skill position players in the backfield.
Brown is the second player to commit on a visit to Charlottesville in the past few days. North Carolina native Will Richardson made his pledge to the Hoos on a visit to UVa over the holiday weekend. Richardson, slotted to play on the offensive line, chose Virginia over offers from FSU, NC State, and others. Richardson is a 3-star prospect according to Rivals.
Virginia is now up to six commits in what is expected to be a smaller class in 2014. With top targets Andrew Brown, Jamil Kamara, Derrick Nnadi and others still out there, the Hoos will probably be more selective going forward. Here is a list of the Cavaliers' entire 2014 class to date:
