Daily Progress: No news yet on Bennett extension
Yes, we all agree. Tony Bennett is a god among men and deserves all the riches in the world. It seems that the University of Virginia would agree, but they have yet to commit said riches to him just yet.
Whitey Reid of the Daily Progress did some investigating, but AD Craig Littlepage refused comment, just noting that it was a "personnel matter." Reid reports that Bennett is seeking more years on his deal and additional pay for his assistants.
This lack of news is only really news for two reasons. First, we have expected an announcement of a new contract since it was reported shortly after UVA's season ended that one was in negotiations. Second, this tweet that noted potential interest in Bennett by NBA teams was tweeted.
There's nothing to worry about really on either front. Contract negotiations are contract negotiations, and aren't always perfectly quick and clean. And there's no evidence that Bennett would have remotely interest in coaching tn the NBA...his philosophy and style just don't seem suited for that level. This was just a random tweet, guys.
Tony Bennett's contract currently runs through 2019, paying him $1.7 per season, the same amount as the original contract he signed in 2009. He signed a 5-year contract extension after the 2012 season, but his compensation was unchanged.
