Well, here we are again. For the 121st time, the football teams of Virginia and North Carolina get together to settle the annual contest known as the South’s Oldest Rivalry.
The Cavaliers got a three game homestand off to a disappointing start when their offense collapsed in the second half against Pittsburgh, which might have been manageable if the special teams had not done a similar fainting act on kickoff coverage in the first half.
North Carolina is a fearsome challenge. The Tar Heels are looking to lock up bowl eligibility today, and have a schedule that could put them in solid position to play for the ACC title if Virginia Tech drops one more conference game. Larry Fedora’s pass happy attack has given Virginia several times before, and they’ll be trying to exploit a defensive backfield hampered by injuries. No wonder the Heels are double digit point favorites this afternoon.
The Hoos are 2-4 and if they plan to play beyond Thanksgiving weekend, they’re going to need to start pulling off upsets against some increasingly long odds.
Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here, this is a gamethread!!!
