Welp. It was fun to have optimism in UVa football for a few brief weeks. The good ole UVa football is back, but that doesn’t mean we can’t analyze the rest of the conference.
Below is how the writers at Streaking the Lawn think the ACC stacks up.
1. Clemson Tigers (7-0, 4-0) Last week: 1
This week: at FSU
The Tigers got a week off to recoup after that nightmare game against NC State. If they get past the Seminoles this weekend it’ll be pretty much smooth sailing to the CFP. Even if they lose this, Tigers are still looking good absent a wonderful Clemson***.
2. Louisville Cardinals (6-1, 4-1) Last week: 2
This week: at UVa
Don’t know if NC State was worn out after their game against Clemson, but man did Louisville do bad things to them. The Cardinals are not undefeated because Clemson pretty much cheated. Even a win against Houston next month won’t help UL enough to get into the CFP.
3. Florida State Seminoles (5-2, 2-2) Last week: 3
This week: vs. Clemson
The Noles also had a bye week to get ready for their showdown against Clemson. It looks like it will mean significantly less this season, but a win would go a long way to FSU’s bowl and next year’s expectations.
4. Virginia Tech Hokies (5-2, 3-1) Last week: 7
This week: at Pitt
The Hokies made the statement they needed to make last Thursday against Miami. With a weak schedule the rest of the way, barring a serious trip up against an inferior opponent, the Hokies will likely be playing Clemson in the ACC Championship Game in Fuente’s first year.....ugh.
5. North Carolina Tar Heels (6-2, 4-1) Last week: 4
This week: BYE, vs GT 11/5
After looking lost against Virginia Tech in Hurricane Matthew, the Heels have rolled off wins against Miami and UVa. A season ending game against NC State in Chapel Hill is the only thing standing between the Heels and a 10 win season. The test after that will be keeping Fedora in Chapel Hill.
6. Pittsburgh Panthers (5-2, 2-1) Last week: 6
This week: vs. VT
The Panthers are putting together a nice little 2016 season. Unfortunately, they have a three game stretch of vs. VT, at Miami, and at Clemson. 5-2 could rapidly turn into 5-5. They do get Duke and Cuse to end the season, so 7-5 is certainly possible.
7. Miami Hurricanes (4-3, 1-3) Last week: 5
This week: at Notre Dame
It took Richt like 4 years to lose control at Georgia. Did he lose control of Miami after just 7 games? The Canes started out 4-0 (against weak competition), but outside of three quarters against FSU, they haven’t been great in their last 3; which they all lost. Fairly easy back half, so 10-3 is a real possibility.
8. NC State Wolfpack (4-3, 1-2) Last week: 8
This week: vs. BC
I’d be surprised in State had anyone left on their football team after that Louisville game. Lucky for them, the All-Star team from their fall intramural season could play this weekend and they’d still win.
9. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (5-2, 2-2) Last week: 9
This week: vs. Army
The quest for 6 will almost surely be achieved this weekend. With games against UVa and BC left on the schedule, the Deacs might once again be proud of their football program.
10. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (4-3, 1-3) Last week: 10
This week: vs. Duke
After dropping three in a row, the Yellow Jackets got back on track two weeks ago against Georgia Southern. We’d be surprised, but nobody would be truly shocked if they win the rest of their games, but the same could be said if they go winless. GT and Paul Johnson is the enigma we all know and love in college football.
11. Syracuse Orange (4-4, 2-2) Last week: 11
This week: at BC
Babers got his signature win two weeks ago against the Hokies. He’s had quite a successful first season, but there are no more cupcakes in their final 4.
12. Virginia Cavaliers (2-5, 1-2) Last week: 12
This week: vs. Louisville
After seeing what UL did to NC State last week, I am truly scared of what Lamar Jackson might do at Scott Stadium on Saturday. Thank God it is almost basketball season.
13. Duke Blue Devils (3-4, 0-3) Last week: 13
This week: at Duke
It’s almost basketball season.
14. Boston College Golden Eagles (3-4, 0-4) Last week: 14
This week: vs. Syracuse
It’s ok guys, it’s almost hockey season! (I think. I really have no idea when college hockey season is.)
