Two opponents, two victories. The Hoos are one step closer to achieving the NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament three-peat as Virginia dominated Columbia 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. Virginia defeated Monmouth 4-0 in the tournament opener on Friday.
After UVA won the doubles point to start the day, Virginia’s Collin Altimirano, J.C. Aragone, and Henrik Wiersholm all cruised to singles victories in straight sets to secure the win. The entire match was completed in under two hours.
With the win, Virginia (30-1), has clinched their spot in the round of 16 in Athens, Georgia, where they will face either Florida or Georgia Tech. The next round is scheduled for 9am on Thursday.
Luckily, Virginia is familiar with both potential opponents as the Hoos defeated Florida 5-2 back in February and took down Georgia Tech 6-1 in April.
Virginia is hoping for head coach Brian Boland’s final season to be a memorable one before he heads to the U.S. Tennis Association.
