With the 2010 MLB Amateur Players Draft roughly 2 months ago we now know how it will affect the 2011 UVa Baseball team. Of the returning players drafted all but two signed professional contracts and will no longer don the orange and blue Virginia Cavaliers jersey. While I don't know all of the incoming first years it appears that Coach O'Connor will only lose one pitcher. These are their stories:

A little over two weeks ago the Hoos had a school record 9 players selected in the 2010 MLB draft. Coming into today, 4 players had already signed professional contracts with the respective teams that selected them earlier this month. Fourth year Neal Davis has signed with the Phillies and is playing in Florida with the Gulf Coast League Phillies; fellow fourth year Tyler Cannon has signed with the Indians; the first 3rd year to sign was Phil Gosselin who signed with the Braves earlier this week and is currently with the Low-A Rome Braves; and Kevin Arico has also signed with the Reds and will report soon.

I am still reeling from the abrupt end to our baseball season earlier this week, but with the end of the season comes the beginning of summer baseball and MLB considerations. Will's going to keep you all up to speed as our Cavaliers decide who's going to the pros and 'Hoos sticking around these parts. But in the meanwhile, we've put together a list of where your Virginia Cavaliers have dispersed for the summertime.
Sophomore Danny Hultzen and junior Kevin Arico were named to the Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-America first team, it was announced today. Junior Phil Gosselin was also recognized, as he was named to the third-team All-America. Earlier today, Hultzen was also named a second-team All-American by Baseball America.
Neither Will nor I really want to talk about it, so unfortunately you guys are not going to get a full-on analysis of tonight's game. Suffice it to say that the Cavaliers failed to show up in a decisive game 3, as we fell 11-0 to Oklahoma. On the one hand, this season was a giant disappointment, as Virginia was pretty much a unanimous pick to return to the CWS. On the other hand, with 51 wins and a school record, you can't be too disappointed. It's a slew of mixed emotions here on StreakingtheLawn, and maybe you'll be lucky and Will will break it all down. Until then, it's been real getting to know you baseball fans out there.
Yea, I had to be a little cliché with the title. This game tonight is the difference between a season being considered a success and a monumental failure. Ask Texas or Coastal Carolina fans if their team had a successful year this year. Resounding answer: Hell na!

One win away from Omaha. This is the situation that every Division 1 baseball team begins the season hoping to be in come the 2nd weekend of June. The UVa baseball team is in that fortunate position.
