Football season kicks off in 14 days, and while most of you are anxiously awaiting the start of the London Era (see, right) and seeing what a return to the tight end era and a switch to a 4-3 defense will bring to Cavalier Country, we must also take the time to recognize that there are, in fact, other football programs out there competing. Each week, StreakingtheLawn will participating in the BlogPoll, a poll hosted by SB Nation and run by Brian from MGoBlog, a Michigan blog. It features over 100 unabashedly biased bloggers ranking which teams they think are the Top 25. After the jump, you’ll find my contribution this week – yes, Boston College made my cut.

It's the usual suspects at the top of the football recruiting rankings. Texas and Alabama are Nos. 1 and 2, followed by the supporting cast of Oklahoma, Ohio State, LSU, and crew. But scroll down a little further – do you see Virginia Tech? If so, you've gone too far. Because at least for now, ESPN ranks the Virginia Cavaliers' 2011 Recruiting Class as the 18th best in the nation, and Virginia and Mike London one of this year's top movers and shakers. Scout.com ranks Virginia No. 23 in the nation at the time of this column.

It is with great sadness today that we report that the father of a Virginia football player was among those who were lost due to the plane crash in Alaska on Monday. Sophomore tight end Colter Phillips' father, Bill Sr., who was an attorney and Washington lobbyist, did not survive the same crash that also took former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens. Colter's brother, Wililam "Willy" Phillips, Jr., was also on the plane passengers, and was one of four who fortunately survived the wreck.

Two full days of training camp practice have come and gone, and the Cavaliers are quickly getting into shape as they prepare for the Richmond Spiders on September 4. Based on reports online, it looks like Kris Burd is the big winner of the day, having gotten most of the looks over the past couple days, as he leads wide receivers in catches and yards.
With the first day of training camp coming up tomorrow, the start of the London Era is on everybody's minds. I had the pleasure of sitting down with the fellas over at Dear Old U.Va. to chat about the upcoming season and what our thoughts were on a whole slew of questions, including our outlook on the season, some concerns we might have, and an early passing of judgment on Coach London.
The ACC announced its Class of 2010 Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game Legends.this morning, and chosen from Virginia was running back Barry Word, who played for the Cavaliers from 1982-1985.
