The No. 7 Virginia women’s soccer team got their season off right this season, blanking Liberty 4-0 on Friday night and doing it again to Colgate 6-0 on Sunday. The star of both games was senior forward Meghan Lenczyk, who was named this week’s TopDrawerScorer.com’s National Player of the Week.

It's move-in weekend in Charlottesville, which means residents can expect Harris Teeter, Wal-Mart, Target, and all of Emmet St. to be overflowing with bright-eyed, bushy-tailed kids. But it also means that Virginia sports is officially back in action. It hasn't been as long of an off-season for Virginia as for lowlies like Duke, Carolina and Maryland, since Virginia's sports season extends well into June, but for Cavaliers fans, it's been all too long. Women's soccer and field hockey have already seen preseason action, but here's a look ahead and what you can expect this weekend.

The ACC, with a total of eight selections, is the league with the most representatives among the list of 45 female athletes named to the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List for the 2010 season. Virginia, ranked preseason No. 17, places one player to the list: senior Sinead Farrelly. The midfielder was named a Hermann Trophy semifinalist last season.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced today the 39 men's soccer players named to the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List for the 2010 season. Sophomore Will Bates and Junior Greg Monaco were each named to the Watch List of this prestigious award. The defending NCAA Champion Virginia is one of five schools that placed two players on the list, while Akron and Tulsa each placed three.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has ranked the Virginia women’s soccer team No. 17 nationally in its Preseason Poll, released yesterday, August 10. The Cavaliers are one of seven ACC teams ranked in the Top 25, with North Carolina topping the list at No. 1, followed by Florida State (6), Boston College (7), Wake Forest (10), Virginia Tech (15) and Maryland (16).

Former Virginia Cavaliers head coach Bruce Arena had already made his name as a legend while in Charlottesville, having brought home five NCAA titles, including four in a row from 1991-1994 and an overall record of 295-58-32 over his 18 years. Today, Arena was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame prior to the USA-Brazil match at the New Meadowlands Stadium. Arena was elected to the Hall of Fame back in late January on the builder ballot.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America released its Pre-Season Poll today, and the Virginia Cavaliers, reigning national champions, check in at second, behind Akron, whom the 'Hoos defeated in the championship game last season. Of the list, four of the top six are ACC schools, with Wake Forest (3), North Carolina (4), and Maryland (6) following behind Virginia.
