It wasn't until five hours and 23 minutes after the opening kickoff of the Virginia Cavaliers' 2013 BCS Championship campaign that Cavalier fans were finally able to breathe a sigh of relief as the Hoos got their first of 13 wins this year. Reasonable minds can differ on whether Virginia's offense is ready for the season quite just yet, but one thing is clear: the Virginia faithful should be commended for withstanding a lightning delay and torrential downpour that lasted over two hours and threatened to take away any home field advantage Virginia had over BYU's impressive traveling crowd.
Next week's opponent is a much taller order, of course, but in the meantime, Virginia fans can savor this somewhat of an upset victory to start the season right. As Brian Schwartz noted, "this wasn't just win 1 out of 6...a win in a toss-up week 1 game may end up being that 6th win."
So go ahead and enjoy the gallery of pictures. Relive the 54-yard field goal and the chest-pounding pre-game festivities. As an added bonus, you won't have to sit through the entire lightning delay or run the risk of catching pneumonia today!
