Another week down and UVa and Clemson are still on track to play in the ACC Championship Game. Apparently there are some Virginia Tech fans that take umbrage with the fact that their in state rivals are undefeated in the Conference (If you came back, look up “umbrage.” I already know you don’t know what it means).
Without further ado, here is how the ACC stacks up after 6 weeks of college football...
1. Clemson Tigers (6-0, 3-0) Last week: 1
This week: vs. NC State
Last week the Tigers did their best to not support a true American hero, by embarrassing Boston College 56-10. If nobody else will say it, I will: Clemson supports terrorism. Although beating NC State this weekend will do America a favor.
2. Louisville Cardinals (4-1, 2-1) Last week: 2
This week: vs. Duke
The Cardinals got to recover from their loss two weeks ago with a bye this past week. Lamar Jackson will look to keep up his Heisman campaign this weekend against a struggling Blue Devils team. Louisville needs to hope there are a lot of losses from top teams or two losses from Clemson.
3. Virginia Tech Hokies (4-1, 2-0) Last week: 6
This week: at Syracuse
The Hokies sent a message to the ACC that Fuente may be ahead of schedule in rebuilding Virginia Tech. The game against UNC might have looked differently if it wasn’t played in a hurricane, but give credit to VT who did what was needed. They’ll get a bye week this week against Syracuse to get ready for a Thursday showdown against Miami on the 20th.
4. Florida State Seminoles (4-2, 1-2) Last week: 5
This week: vs. Wake Forest
After years of missing field goals to lose to Miami, the Noles escaped this past weekend thanks to a missed extra point. Just think, if that goes through and the Canes pull it off in OT, FSU would be staring at an 0-3 ACC record. This game is B-A-N-A-N-A-S.
5. Miami Hurricanes (4-1, 1-1) Last week: 4
This week: vs. UNC
The Hurricanes did not ace their first test into how legit we think they are, but they certainly did not fail. The Canes get another chance this weekend when they’ll play host to a “pretty good” UNC team, but their last real chance will be in two weeks against Virginia Tech.
6. North Carolina Tar Heels (4-2, 2-1) Last week: 3
This week: at Miami
The Heels really laid an egg this past weekend in their Hurri-game against the Hokies, losing 34-3. With Miami and the Coastal-leading Cavaliers in back to back weeks, could this be the final nail in the “UNC is good” argument?
7. Pittsburgh Panthers (4-2, 1-1) Last week: 7
This week: at UVa
After losing to UNC two weeks ago on the final play of the game, the Panthers avoided an 0-2 start to the ACC season with a game winnings field goal of their own against Georgia Tech. If Pitt wants to show they are for real, they’ll get their chance with their next 4 of @UVa, vs. VT, @ Miami, and @ Clemson. Brutal.
8. NC State Wolfpack (4-1, 1-0) Last week: 8
This week: at Clemson
If you are like me and watched the Wolfpack “game” against Notre Dame this past weekend, you probably also can’t decide if it was the worst game you’ve ever seen, or if it was the most fun game you’ve ever seen. Balls and players were literally sliding all over the field. Serious kudos to the Wolfpack’s turf crew, it held up through the whole thing.
9. Virginia Cavaliers (2-3, 1-0) Last week: 9
This week: vs. Pitt
The future Coastal Division champs got a bye week to rest after rattling off two straight. Figures the ACC would try and slow down their best team just when they start winning. Vegas does not think the Hoos can win this weekend, but Vegas has been wrong for two straight weeks already.
10. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (5-1, 2-1) Last week: 11
This week: at FSU
The quest for a 2016 bowl game is looking mighty good for Wake Forest. Although they travel to FSU this weekend, they follow that up with games against Army and UVa, and finish up the season against BC. Is 8-win Wake Forest a thing we need to recognize?
11. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-3, 1-3) Last week: 10
This week: vs. Georgia Southern
After starting out 3-0 against some subpar competition, the Yellow Jackets have come back to earth with three straight losses. Georgia Southern should be able help put GT back on track, but the Eagles are 3-2 and were competitive against Western Michigan two weeks ago in their first loss of the season.
12. Duke Blue Devils (3-3, 0-2) Last week: 12
This week: at Louisville
After getting back in the win column with a 13-6 slap-fight victory over our nation’s soldiers, the Blue Devils hit the road to take on Lamar Jackson and Louisville. Sooooooo, we’ll be talking about 3-4, 0-3 Duke next week without a doubt in my mind.
13. Syracuse Orange (2-4, 0-2) Last week: 13
This week: at Virginia Tech
I must confess, I watched more than 5 minutes of the Wake-Cuse game this past weekend. I did this for all of you so I could inform you to never watch a game with Syracuse involved in 2016. It will be unbearable and not fun to watch.
14. Boston College Golden Eagles (3-3 0-3) Last week: 14
This week: BYE, vs. Syracuse 10/22
Read what I said about Syracuse? Yea, I watched the Clemson-BC game last Friday too. Whatever you do, Do. Not. Watch. BC-Syracuse in two weeks. If nobody watches it, maybe it won’t happen. It has to be getting close to hockey season, right?
That’s how the rankings work out this week. Below is how each writer voted and some other math stats nobody really understands, but someone asked for them.
