Former Virginia great and current Seattle Mariners LHP Danny Hultzen talks to The News Tribune on how, why and when to throw a curve ball.

"From the first pitch on, I’m thinking ‘hit it,’ because the quicker you get outs, the fewer pitches it takes, the longer you stay in games," Hultzen said.

"That’s the kind of pitcher I am. I don’t have knee-buckling stuff, I don’t throw pitches that make people go ‘whoa!’ but I can make hitters hit my pitch."

Joe Harris Breaks Hand, but Will Continue to Play

When Joe Harris came out of the game yesterday clutching his hand after it was stepped on during a loose ball play, Wahoo fans everywhere saw the chances of a successful season flash before their eyes.

Harris returned with his hand heavily wrapped and made 2 three-pointers during the second half. After x-rays were taken, Whitey Reid of the Daily Progress reports that Harris fractured a bone in his left hand; the hand will be wrapped, and he will be closely monitored, but Joe will continue to play.

"His basketball career began with two gloves and a hat.

As a preschooler living in northern Virginia, Mike Scott wore the clothing accessories every day to school during the winter months. One afternoon, he came home without a glove. The next day, he didn't have his hat. Soon after, his other glove was missing. His father, Michael, an officer in the Marines, wondered whether his oldest son was trading his clothing with friends or was just absent-minded.

After buying several replacements, Michael called the school. That's when he learned the truth: Mike was using each item as a mini-basketball, shooting it toward a makeshift basket -- a milk crate, a trash can, an empty box -- and forgetting to retrieve it by day's end. "The ladies at the daycare told me, 'You may want to buy him a basketball goal so he'll have something to practice on,'" Michael laughs."
