If you followed along with the first round of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships today, you went on a bit of an emotional roller coaster ride.
The Virginia women's golf team had their best showing in program history this weekend at the NCAA Championships, finishing in fourth place overall. Senior Calle Nielson and sophomore Brittany Altomare both repeated as All-Americans. Assistant Coach Brian Bailie was named the National Golf Coaches Association's Assistant Women's Coach of the Year.
Former Virginia golfer Steve Marino is on pace for his first career PGA Tour win, shooting a seven-under 65 after Day 1 and a six-under 66 after Day 2 to lead the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Marino, a 2002 graduate of the University with a sociology degree, finished second earlier this year in the Sony Open in Hawaii.
