Wahoos Crush Wolfpack

Virginia Volleyball snapped a six game losing skid tonight after crushing the Wolfpack 25-16, 25-21, 25-16 at Mem Gym. This also put an end to an 0-4 ACC start, all four games of which were held on the road. The Wolfpack, now 0-4 in the ACC, was coming off a 0-2 week.

In this match of redemption, Virginia (7-10, 2-4 ACC) tied a season-best ten services aces throughout the match and hit .265 to put away the Wolfpack. Despite what the score may suggest, it certainly felt like a close match. The teams traded points in the opening set and used a couple of scoring spurts to capitalize on a weaker Wolfpack squad.

Leaders from Friday's match include Sophomore Simone Asque, who had a .381 attack percentage with 13 kills; junior Kendahl Voelker, senior Lauren Dickson and freshman Jessica O'Shoney who each had 8, 6 and 6 kills respectively. On the defensive side, Dickson also collected a team-high 11 digs, with junior AJ Cushman contributing 10 to the cause. O'Shoney had a match-high six blocks and Voelker added four. Freshman Rachel Gray dished out a match-high 34 assists and had three service aces.

Virginia looks to continue their success this Sunday against the Tar Heels at noon in Mem Gym.
