The Associated Press, ESPN, and a whole slew of Virginia papers are reporting that University of Richmond's Mike London will be declared the next Virginia Head Football Coach. Less than a week after firing Al Groh, Virginia asked for permission to speak to Mike London, who was previously Defensive Coordinator at UVA in 2006-2007.
In his first season as head coach at Richmond, London had earned the University of Richmond its first National Championship in any sport. He went on a 9-0 streak to finish out that 2008 season, and followed it up with a 8-0 start in 2009. This year, Richmond became just the third FCS school ever to receive an AP Top 25 vote.
The official press conference is expected to come out today. I am currently abroad in Spain, so I may not be able to cover it to the extent I would like. I hope to get you as much information as quickly as possible.
