Barrick, Singer Named 2010 Men's Tennis Team Captains

Team Captains Houston Barrick and Lee Singer, courtesy UVa Media RelationsVirginia head coach Brian Boland announced the team captains for the 2010 spring season for Virginia men's tennis.. Seniors Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Lee Singer (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) will lead the program this season.

"Houston and Lee have worked extremely hard over the past three years both on and off the court," said head coach Brian Boland. "They lead by example and have used their experiences to develop into tremendous leaders. They take their responsibility as leaders seriously and have the full support of every player on the team. I have no doubt Houston and Lee will give everything of themselves to make their last semester as Cavaliers our best as a program."

Both players enter the spring season ranked nationally in both singles and doubles. Singer is No. 28 in the singles rankings and No. 17 in doubles with Drew Courtney. This past Fall, Singer was a ITA Atlantic Regional singles semifinalist and doubles finalist. Last season, he was ranked as high as No. 63 nationally in singles and ended the year at No. 88. He finished with an 18-6 singles record, including a 11-3 dual match record, and wa the UVa Fall Invitational Singles Champion

Barrick is No. 58 in singles and is ranked twice in doubles, No. 5 with Sanam Singh and No. 25 with Michael Shabaz. With Singh, Barrick had won the ITA Atlantic Regional doubles title just this past Fall. Last season Barrick was All-ACC and had a 35-8 singles record, including a 22-4 dual match record

Virginia opens its spring season Monday when it hosts William & Mary at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar's Head Sports Club.
