With a 63-54 win over Drexel, the Virginia women's basketball team improves to 5-4 on the season as the Cavaliers kick off the home stand portion of their schedule. It was the first season loss for Drexel, who, despite being down 19 points at the 7:37 mark, managed to cut the lead to seven with under five minutes to play.
"We knew this was going to be a tough game and a short turnaround from the Ohio State trip, but I thought we prepared fairly well for it" Coach Debbie Ryan said. "We did an OK job on the boards and we did a really good job taking care of the basketball, but we really have to get better at scoring the basketball."
Virginia's four losses on the season have all come to top-20 teams, but that's no excuse. Coach Debbie Ryan wants to be one of those teams.
"We just have to get better. I've seen some real good things from Simone Egwu and Chelsea Shine and Paulisha Kellum, and Lexie Gerson's playing well. We just have to get better faster."
Virginia's next game against Radford on Monday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena.
