Steele Stanwick Collects First 2010 ACC Weekly Lacrosse Accolade

Steele Stanwick, courtesy UVa Media RelationsVirginia sophomore attackman Steele Stanwick was named the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, February 21.

Stanwick scored three second-half goals and dished two assists to pace the Cavaliers' 11-8 win at Drexel. The Baltimore, Md., native scored his second goal with 12:03 left to put UVa up by one goal. After Drexel tied the game with 5:40 left to play, Steele took on two defenders and spun to his right to score what proved to be the winnings goal with 3:37 left to play. The Cavs would add two more goals, including one on a Stanwick pass when double teamed near the crease, which found a wide open Chris Bocklet to cap Virginia's scoring. He also added three ground balls in the winning effort.

Virginia returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 23 when the squad travels to Mount St. Mary's. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET
