Ghitelman Earns ACC Weekly Lacrosse Accolade

Adam Ghitelman (StreakingtheLawn)Virginia junior goalkeeper Adam Ghitelman was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, April 11. Ghitelman held second-ranked North Carolina's strong offense to only five goals, matching the Tar Heels' lowest scoring output of the season.

The keeper from Syosset, N.Y., led his top-ranked Virginia Cavaliers to a 7-5 triumph over the Tar Heels in the Konica Minolta Big City Classic on April 10, in front of 25,710 fans inside the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The record crowd for a regular season lacrosse-only game saw Ghitelman record 12 saves on 47 shots taken. UNC averaged 12.5 goals per game in its previous eight games. In addition, Ghitelman quarterbacked UVa's success on 17-of-18 (94.4) clears against a strong Carolina defense that has limited opponents to 75.2 percent on clears for the season heading into the game.

The win helped Virginia clinch a share of the ACC regular season crown in the very first event inside the new NFL edifice. The Cavaliers continue ACC play on Saturday, April 17, as they host sixth-ranked Duke at Klöckner Stadium. First draw is 8:30 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
