Varsity Four Earns ACC Crew of the Week Honors

Virginia's First Varsity Four Tuesday was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Crew of the Week for the first time this year, after defeating both 4th-ranked Yale and 6th-ranked Princeton on Lake Carnegie in Princeton, N.J. last Saturday.

The Cavaliers' First Varsity Four crew posted a time of 7:34.4 to outdistance 6th-ranked Princeton (7:41.6) and 4th-ranked Yale (7:47.2).

The First Varsity Four crew of Virginia is composed of coxswain Sarah Pichardo (Clifton, Va.), McKenzie Leahy (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), Hunter Terry (Greenwich, Conn.), Ruth Retzinger (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Inge Janssen (Voorburg, The Netherlands).

Virginia's First Varsity Four boat has now defeated four nationally ranked opponents this year. Earlier, on April 3, UVa's First Varsity Four downed 10th-ranked Michigan and 13th-ranked Ohio State in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge on Lake Monticello just outside of Charlottesville, Va..

Virginia, which had won nine straight ACC Rowing titles prior to finishing second last year to Clemson, will compete this Saturday in the 11th Annual ACC Rowing Championships on Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C.
