Three Cavaliers get named All-ACC Women's Lacrosse

The ACC released its star-studded All-ACC Women's Lacrosse team yesterday, an 18-person list that features 9 Tewaaraton nominees.  That list features three Cavaliers, including junior defender Liz Downs and senior All-Americans and Tewaaraton nominees Kaitlin Duff and Brittany Kalkstein.  This marks the first time being on the list for Downs and Duff, and is the third time Kalkstein has been honored.

Duff has 31 goals, 16 assists, 37 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers this season. She's only the second Cavalier to reach 100 in five career statistical categories and is eight caused turnovers shy of breaking the program's all-time mark.  Kalkstein is no stranger to records herself. She currently holds the UVa and ACC records for career draws and is 15 shy of tying the all-time NCAA record. She is right behind duff in goals, assists, and points on the season, and is tied with Duff for caused turnovers.  Downs has started every game of her career and is credited with 22 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers this season.  She also has nine draw controls.

The Virginia women in action tonight against in-state rivals Virginia Tech in the first round of the ACC Tournament as the 4th seed.  It should be a high-flying match and enjoyable for those who love offense, as the first meeting between the two this season went 20-14 in favor of Virginia, the highest-scoring game ever between the two teams.  You can watch the game live and for free at TheACC.com.
