Virginia freshman Robby Andrews was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Performer of the Week following last weekend's prestigious Penn Relays, announced today. Andrews helped the Cavalier 4x800-meter relay team accomplish something no Virginia relay team has since World War II.
Andrews, who was named the ACC Men's Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year in March, ran the anchor leg of the men's 4x800-meter relay team that bested a field of 13 squads in 7:15.38 to become the first Virginia relay team to win Championship of America titles at the Penn Relays since 1943. Additionally, the squad, which was composed of senior Alex Bowman, sophomore Lance Roller, and junior Steve Finley, in addition to Andrews, clocked the fastest time in the event since 2004.
The Men's Outdoor Track and Field team returns to action on Saturday against Stanford in Palo Alto.
