Virginia rowing won its fourth straight overall and South Region title this weekend at the South/Central Regional Championships in Tennessee. The No. 3 Cavaliers won four of the five events, including the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Open Four. The Novice Eight finished second to Wisconsin.
The 25-crew field...is "field" the right term? River? The 24-crew river included the a number of top-20 teams, including No. 8 Michigan State, No. 11 Michigan, No. 13 Wisconsin, No. 14 Clemson, No. 15 Ohio St., No. 16 Tennessee, and No. 19 Notre Dame.
Virginia will be competing in the 2010 NCAA Championships May 28-30 at Sacramento St. in California. The announcement should be made tomorrow. The Hoos have finished in the top four at the NCAAs for eight of the past 13 years, but are still looking for their first-ever team national championship. Virginia has Rowing six individual national championships.
