The 13th ranked Virginia women's golf team opened up the second round of the 2010 NCAA Women's Golf Championships in 10th place. It was not an easy first round for any team, as only two schools -- USC and Purdue -- were able to stay under par after round one. Play has been halted, however, as we have been in a lightning delay since 1:49 p.m. today.
At the end of the first day, Virginia, at +6 over par, found themselves in a solid position to make a move today and over the next two days. Brittany Altomare led the Cavaliers at 2-under 70, good enough for eighth place. Behind her were Calle Nielson at 5-under 73, Nicole Agnello at 6-under 74, Joy Kim at 9-under 77 and Lauren Greenlief at 11-under 79.
Brittany, Calle, Nicole and Lauren have all played this course earlier this year, when Virginia finished 5th at the Fall Preview in October.
At the time of the lightning delay, Virginia is currently sitting in 5th place, shooting 3-under for the day, though only thru 2-6. Nicole is -2, Lauren is -1, Brittany and Calle are even, and Joy is +1. Stay tuned to @TheUVAFool on Twitter for your live updates.
