Virginia's men's golf coach Bowen Sargent has been named the Coach of the Year by the Virginia State Golf Coaches Association. It marks the third straight year the Commonwealth's golf coaches have honored Sargent with the award. Three Cavalier golfers were honored by the organization.
Virginia made its third consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships in 2010 and finished 11th overall, the best performance in the history of the program. UVa was second at the ACC Championships, the best finish since the 1996 season. The Cavaliers finished the year ranked No. 12 by Golfstat, 20th by the National Golf Coaches Association and No. 21 by Golfweek.
Sargent was honored earlier in the year as the Atlantic Coast Conference's men's golf coach of the year.
Virginia junior Will Collins (Salisbury, NC.) was named a first-team All-State selection by the VSGCA for the second consecutive year. He was second on the team with a 72.76 stroke average, placed second at the ACCs and was UVa's top finisher (25th) at the NCAAs.
Sophomore Ben Kohles joined Collins as a first-team selection. He paced the team with his 71.32 stroke average and was the ACC's co-player of the year. Kohles finished first at three events during the season.
Senior Kyle Stough was a second-team selection. He was third on the team with a 73.00 stroke average and placed 34th at the NCAA Championships.
