Virginia Cross Country on the Rise

Both the men's and women's cross country teams earned a little bit of recognition from Running Times Magazine, who recently released their 2010 NCAA Cross Country Preview online. The magazine took note of the Cavaliers' recent success, as both teams went into the NCAA Championships weekend at the end of last season ranked 19th nationally. Both the men's and the women's team made the list as programs on the rise in 2010. Senior Catherine White also received additionally attention.

White, who received All-America honors with a fourth place finish last season as a junior in the NCAA Championships, was named one of the top four individuals coming into the season, and the THE top returning runner from 2009.

The Running Magazine women's preview can be found here, while the men's is here.

The 'Hoos have four meets this season, in addition to the ACC Championships and the NCAA Regionals. Virginia will play host in three of those meets -- at the Lou Onesty Alumni Open on September 10, the Panorama Farms invitational on October 15, and the Cavalier Invitational on November 5. They will travel to the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on October 1. The ACC Championships will be held at Boston College on October 30, while the NCAA Regionals will be in Louisville, Kentucky on November 13.
