The reigning NCAA Doubles Champions Michael Shabaz and Drew Courtney will be playing on a bigger stage this week, as the Cavaliers duo take on the No. 2-ranked Bryan Brothers in the Legg Mason Classic. This is the first professional tournament that Shabaz and Courtney have played in together.
Mike and Bob Bryan are coming off a win in the Countrywide Classic in Los Angeles just yesterday. The Bryan Brothers, quite possibly the greatest duo of all time, have eight Grand Slam titles under their belt. In 1998, they too were NCAA Doubles Champions, coming out of Stanford.
Shabaz fell in the first round of the Qualifying Round to No. 99 Donald Young, 6-4, 6-2.
Somdev Devvarman also fell in the Qualifying Round, to Kevin Kim, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Devvarman is currently ranked No. 103 in the world, his highest ranking to date.
