Virginia to Play Oregon Basketball at JPJA

The Oregon Ducks aren't a team we on the east coast regularly get to watch, but the Virginia Cavaliers will play host to the Pac 10 squad this December 17 at John Paul Jones Arena, according to first year Ducks head coach Dana Altman.

Oregon announced yesterday that due to health reasons, they will be postponing the upcoming Italian Foreign Tour -- originally scheduled to take off this Monday, August 23 -- but that they have added Virginia to their schedule in a home-and-home series. The Wahoos will return the favor in the 2011-2012 season.

While JPJA still has that "still kinda new" feeling to it, by the time Virginia travels to Eugene, Oregon, the Ducks will have christened their brand new Matthew Knight Arena, which opens this January 13, 2011. The arena, according to OregonLive.com, costs nearly $100 million more than JPJA's $131 million price tag.

Oregon finished their season 16-16, dropping the Pac 10 Tournament quarterfinal game to Cal, and subsequently terminating their contract with 13-year head coach Ernie Kent. New head coach Altman comes from Creighton and has accumulated 13 straight post-season appearances and 11 consecutive 20-win seasons.
