The Virginia men's soccer team has outscored their opponents 11-3 this season and is currently undefeated, sitting at 3-0-1 after defeating Marist 2-0 on Tuesday. The Cavaliers, who were honored this weekend at the White House along with all the NCAA champions from last year, should be well-rested for Saturday's ACC showdown between the No. 2 Hoos and No. 14 Wake Forest.
The Demon Deacons, who are somehow 1-2-1 on the season, have fallen at the hands of No. 1 Akron and ...Charlotte (from a pair of first half goals). The Charlotte shutout, 2-0, came this past Tuesday, and you can expect the Deacs to be playing with passion to earn their ranking.
Contributing to the Charlotte loss was the fact that Wake Forest was missing their star sophomore Danny Wenzel, who earned national and ACC all-freshman honors last season. Wenzel was out due to a concussion, but is expected to return on Saturday. Cavs should also keep an eye out on Wake's Anthony Arena, who has 2 goals on the season.
Virginia's Jimmy Simpson leads the team with 3 goals, while there's plenty of support coming from Brian Span, Will Bates, and Sean Hiller at 2 goals a piece. Virginia currently has the 8th best scoring offense in the country.
Virginia has an active 13 game unbeaten streak at home. Fans should expect a physical matchup on Saturday, but ultimately, the Hoos should be able to dispatch Wake with relative ease. Game starts at 7:00 p.m.
