Don't look now, but the No. 3 ranked Virginia Cavaliers are still undefeated, after knocking of Lafayette 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. Tara Puffenberger, the National and ACC Player of the Week, was just one of four Cavaliers to find the back of the net last night, together with Elly Buckley, Paige Selenski and Michelle Vittese.
Virginia, who ranks behind No. 1 North Carolina and No. 2 Maryland, has posted four shutouts this season, including one earlier against No. 18 Penn State. The Cavs don't open up ACC play until next Friday, against No. 11 Boston College, but don't think that means they've had a cakewalk of a schedule so far. In addition to Penn State, the Hoos have also dispatched No. 16 ODU, No. 12 Ohio State and No. 9 Syracuse.
For back-to-back weeks. the ACC and national media have had their eyes on Virginia players. Puffenberger picked up the ACC Player of the Week and womensfieldhockey.com National Player of the Week after notching her first career hat trick last week against Ohio State. Selenski won the same honors the week before, after scoring four goals in a game against Old Dominion, with 9 season goals over 4 games so far.
ACC action begins on Friday against Boston College at 4:00 p.m.
