David Watford | Dual-Threat Quarterback | Hampton HS (Hampton, Va.)

Status: SIGNED. This isn't so much news as it is posted for completeness' sake. David Watford is a January enrollee and therefore technically counts as a Class of 2010 recruit.

6'2" / 180 lbs / 4.6 Video: [Rivals] [Rivals 2]

Rankings:
- ESPN:  3* / 76 Rating / #58 QB
- Rivals: 3* / 5.5 Rating / #29 QB / #19 State
- Scout: 3* / #77 QB
- _247: 3* / 86 Rating

Other Offers: Virginia Tech, West Virginia

Notes:  His numbers are there and he's extremely athletic, and the best part of all is that he really is a dual threat. He stands to benefit immensely from enrolling at Virginia a semester early so as to work on his passing game (he has some difficulty controlling the ball from snap-to-snap and struggles when not completely set) and to add the bulk that a college weight program allows. He has "deceptive speed" and good overall quickness, and has the footwork to avoid a tackle or two. Given that Virginia has no frontrunner at the QB position, and the talent level already there is of questionable impress (particularly with respect to a running quarterback), Watford stands a real chance at getting solid minutes his freshman year. By the way, his cousin is Marques Hagans, and he was the last person from Hampton to pick Virginia, way back in 2001.

Quotables

"There are too many factors to really narrow it down. I would say my relationship with the coaches played a big role, as did the players that I know there. The academic reputation was big too. I feel like with this decision, I have accomplished all of the goals I set to. Virginia was where I felt most comfortable, offers the best education, has a great opportunity to play early, and the school that I connected with the coaches the best." - to CavsCorner.com, on what factors led to Virginia.
