Danny Hultzen named ACC, National Player of the Week

It was a big week for Virginia's LHP Danny Hultzen, who has been named the ACC Baseball Pitcher of the Week and the Louisville Slugger's National Player of the Week after his impressive performance Friday night as the Cavaliers dominated East Carolina 10-1.

Despite a 20-25 mph wind blowing straight out, Hultzen recorded one of the most dominating pitching outings in Virginia baseball history with 15 strikeouts over 7 innings against East Carolina. The 15 Ks were the most by a Cavalier since Seth Greisinger had 16 against North Carolina on March 23, 1996.

Hultzen did not walk a batter and allowed only three hits. After giving up a single to start the game, Hultzen retired the next 19 batters from the first to the seventh innings with just one ball leaving the infield. If that wasn't enough, he was 3-for-4 at the plate as a hitter with 3 RBIs.

Through two games, Hultzen is 2-0 with a 1.32 ERA. In 13.2 innings, he has struck out 25 batters and walked just one. He also is batting .333 with a team-high 10 RBI.

Virginia will take on William & Mary on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
