Freshman Maddy Keeshan earns Women's Lacrosse National Rookie of the Week honors

Virginia freshman Maddy Keeshan earned the Rookie of the Week honors this week after putting up six points for No. 12 Virginia over No. 9 Syracuse this weekend at the Carrier Dome. This is the first career weekly award for the freshman.

The Greenwich, Conn. native had three goals and three points this past weekend in the 21-10 trouncing of the Orange, which comes after she recorded her first collegiate goal earlier last week against Richmond. The six points marks the most by a UVa freshman in a game since former All-American Blair Weymouth had six goals in a 13-8 victory over No. 1 Duke in the finals of the 2006 ACC Tournament.

The midfielder was a two-time All-American in high school and has started in all three games for Virginia this year.

Virginia returns to action Friday night against to-ranked Maryland at Klockner Stadium.
