GREENSBORO, N.C. - Virginia junior guard Ariana Moorer earned the fourth annual Atlantic Coast Conference Sixth Player of the Year honor, announced by ACC Commissioner John Swofford today. The ACC Sixth Player of the Year accolade is nominated and selected by a vote of the league's 12 ACC women's basketball head coaches.
Moorer, a junior from Woodbridge, Va., leads her team in scoring, despite only starting in eight of the Cavaliers' 28 games this season. She helped the Virginia bench average an impressive 26.0 points per game. In addition, the reserve point guard has led the team in assists, dishing out 87 on the season.
Averaging 9.5 points per game, Moorer tabbed the team's highest single-game scoring output this year, registering 24 points at Southeastern Conference foe Tennessee.
The 34th Annual ACC Women's Basketball Tournament tips off at approximately 11 a.m. ET on Thursday, March 3, and will conclude with a 1 p.m. championship contest on Sunday, March 6. The title game, as well as the semifinals, will be broadcast by Fox Sports Net (FSN) in HD, while the 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. games on Thursday, March 3, and Friday, March 4, will be televised on the league's regional package (RSN).
