Michael Shabaz Repeats As ACC Men's Tennis Player Of The Week

Virginia's fourth year tennis standout Michael Shabaz was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the second consecutive week (and fourth time this season) he has garnered such acclaim.

Shabaz dropped a total of seven games in two matches vs. fellow top-35 opponents as Virginia defeated No. 32 Oklahoma and No. 6 Texas by 5-2 scores.

Playing on the No. 2 court in the doubles match, the No. 8 Shabaz scored a 6-1, 6-3 win over No. 34 Ionur Belelu of Oklahoma. Shabaz then moved up to No. 1 for the Texas match, where he defeated No. 33 Ed Corrie by a 6-1, 6-2 score. Shabaz and teammate Drew Courtney added a doubles victory in the win over Oklahoma.

Shabaz, of Fairfax, Va., improved to 13-1 in dual matches this season. In addition to this week's Player of the Week honor, Shabaz was also cited as the ACC Player or Co-Player of the Week on Jan. 25, Feb. 8 and March 15.

Congrats, Michael!
