Virginia Football Announces 2011 Captains


As a part of its spring game, Virginia has announced the captains for the 2011 season. Leading the Cavaliers will be senior wide receiver Matt Snyder, junior running back Perry Jones, senior safety Rodney McLeod and senior defensive end Nick Jenkins.

XomgxgorbtpxvqySnyder (Glen Allen, Va.) appeared in all 12 games last season, making his first career start against North Carolina, and his only other career start against Duke. He put together 393 total receiving yards, averaging 13.1 per reception. He also made six tackles while on special teams. He is 6'4 and 204 pounds.

JejwonvnbxmaedzJones (Chesapeake, Va.) started 11 of 12 games last season. He was third on the team with 31 receptions and tied Keith Payne for the team lead of 4.7 yards per rush average. He led the team with 1106 all-purpose yards, including returning six punts for 45 yards and 12 kickoffs for 191 yards. He rushed for 646 total yards and caught for 224. He is 5'8 and 185 pounds.

Xbrsfvsnsynwvbf"Hot Rod" McLeod (Oxon Mill, Md.) is a three-time letterer, starting nine games last season, missing Richmond and USC due to a knee injury. He had two interceptions last season and a total of 54 tackles, 2.5 of which were for a loss. He comes in at 5'10, 180 pounds.

LxxozwxuiqlgqbdJenkins (Westminster, Md.) is also a three-time letterer and started all 12 games last season, named one of the defensive captains. He recorded 43 tackles and 3.0 tackles for losses. In 2008, he was named to the Rivals.com ACC All-Freshman team. He's 6'3 and 275 pounds.

Virginia's schedule kicks off on Saturday, September 3 in Charlottesville against William & Mary.
