There have been haters along the way but the Virginia Cavaliers are your 2011 ACC Tournament Champions. With a defeat of FSU 7-2 in the championship game the 'Hoos clinched their 2nd ACC title in the last three years and further cemented themselves in the NCAA tournament that starts next weekend.
Danny Hultzen turned in another great starting performance on the mound for the Hoos going six innings and only allowing two runs. Thompson, Crockett, and Wilson closed out the game to give the Hoos their 49th win of the season, 4th win of the ACC Tournament and the title.
At the plate the Hoos were certainly no slouches. Chris Taylor, John Hicks, and ACC Tournament MVP Stephen Proscia all hit home runs to cement the lead for the Cavaliers. Not only was Proscia named the Tournament MVP but 4th year Kenny Swab and 2nd year Chris Taylor were also selected to the All-Tournament team.
The Hoos were now turn their sights to who they will host next weekend in the first weekend of the NCAA tournament. The Cavaliers were selected as hosts by the NCAA about midway during the 7th inning. At 12:30 tomorrow afternoon the NCAA will announce the full bracket and the Cavaliers will know who they will play.
Going in I expect the Cavaliers to get one of the top three national seeds and host an SEC team as the #2 seed, a mid major conference champion as the #3, and JMU will more than likely wind up being the #4 seed. I'll be fine with those matchups.
I know it has been mentioned once already today and many times but seriously, UVA JUST WON THEIR SECOND ACC TITLE IN THE LAST THREE YEARS! Go Hoos!
