Virginia Basketball enters Year Three of the Tony Bennett Era with high expectations, as many have predicted the Hoos to finish as high as fourth in the conference, thanks to the return of double-double extraordinaire Mike Scott, as well as the return of an accompanying cast of talented guys in senior leader Sammy Zeglinski, sophomore shooter Joe Harris, defensive specialist Jontel Evans and glass man Assane Sene. Couple this with a highly touted set of recruits and redshirt freshman big man James Johnson, and you've got all the talent you need to make big waves in the league.
The ACC released its 2011-12 basketball schedule today, which follows below. As was previously announced, Virginia will be traveling to the Virgin Islands to play in the Paradise Jam Tournament for the first time, with a quarterfinal matchup against TCU in their last year in the Mountain West.
Virginia tips off the ACC schedule at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7 against Miami at John Paul Jones Arena. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
The Hoos and the Hokies will again play each other twice this season, with the first contest on January 22 in Charlottesville, and the second in Blacksburg on February 21. Both games will be televised on ESPNU.
Virginia only faces Duke once this year, but it's at Cameron Indoor. Virginia also gets the distinct pleasure of playing the Tar Heels twice in just two weeks.
The Cavaliers will also get to (have to?) travel to Oregon to play on that crazy court they've got going out there. Should be an interesting, if not migraine-inducing, experience.
Also noteworthy is that Coach Bennett's alma mater, Wisconsin-Green Bay, will be coming to Virginia in November. Should be a good time.
The full schedule, including available tip-off times and television broadcasts, follows the jump.
