Introducing myself as a new voice to help guide you through the trials of being a Virginia fan.

Peter Casey-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Wahoowa, Virginia fans! My name is Matt, and I'm the newest contributor here at Streaking the Lawn. I know you've got a lot on your minds these days (see: Virginia football struggles) so I'll keep this introduction brief. But believe me, I'm pumped to get started.

Who I am: In my former life as a UVA student, I covered the football team (among others) for The Cavalier Daily. I've written for thesabre.com, and cstv.com, and currently write once a week for SBNation Atlanta and SBNation Tampa Bay. You can check out my profile here. In the real world, I work in corporate relations for a financial news site called The Motley Fool.

I'm a lifelong Virginia fan and I have a lot of the mixed emotions that come with that. I'll never forget listening to Virginia's upset of Florida State in 1995. The game finished past my bedtime, so I had to listen to the fourth quarter on my Walkman while pretending to sleep. On the flip side, I'll never forget Virginia's 2009 loss to William and Mary at Scott Stadium. I was so angry that I took off my Virginia shirt and left it in the stands at Scott Stadium. My friends were not impressed...

What to expect: I'm a bit of a recruiting and statistics nerd, so I'll start off with some looks at previous football recruiting classes. About three years ago, I started unscientifically rating the careers of all of the Cavalier recruits that committed to play for former Virginia coach Al Groh. I've continued my ratings during the London era. It's not the coolest hobby, but it keeps me off the streets and entertained in the off-season. Once basketball season picks up, I hope to be able to contribute with some hoops coverage, too.

I'll try to call it like I see it. On the homer scale, I'm probably a 6 out of 10. I try to stay positive, but I also try to stay realistic. It should be a roller coaster fall for UVA fans, and I'm excited to share the ride with you.

Go Hoos.
