Virginia Cavaliers Basketball Player Profile: Justin Anderson

Justin Anderson was a major recuiting coup for the Cavaliers, when he decommitted from Maryland last year. As a freshman, Anderson could have a big impact in orange & blue.

When I started to write Justin Anderson's player profile, I tried to find his best highlight reel on the internet. It was tough to decide, as they are all very impressive. This one could be the best. Or this one. My favorite is probably this one. Watch any of them and you find out right away that Anderson is the best athlete to sign with the Virginia Men's Basketball program in quite some time.

Justin Anderson played four years at prep powerhouse Montrose Christian in Maryland. Anderson committed to the University of Maryland during his junior season, but flipped to the Cavaliers soon after Gary Williams' retirement. His first trip to College Park will be met with great hostility to be sure. The 6'6'' freshman is originally from the Fredericksburg area, so the Cavaliers are somewhat of a local option. Anderson averaged 17.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game as a senior, playing against some stiff competition.

Anderson is a high-flying athlete, who makes dunking look like a really simple task every time he takes the court. That athletic ability is also a huge asset on the defensive end, with Anderson blocking tons of shots over his years at Montrose. In fact, Justin has said that he loves playing defense, and obviously that has to bring a smile to Tony Bennett's face. One area where Anderson could probably use improvement is his shooting consistency. Justin has no problem getting to the rim and making plays, but if he could improve his shooting percentages over his collegiate career, he could be a real terror for ACC opponents.

Justin Anderson's potential is unbelievable. Not only is he a tremendous athlete that will surely have several incredible dunks every year, but he also works really hard, and plays with an energy and passion that is hard to match. Anderson will become one of those players that UVA fans will adore, but opposing fans will hate.
