O Jontel, Where Art Thou?

USA TODAY Sports

What: Virginia Cavaliers (9-3, 0-0 ACC) vs. Wofford Terriers (6-6, 0-1 SoCon)

Time: 1:00 p.m. ET

Date: December 30, 2012
Place: John Paul Jones Arena
TV: Regional Sports Networks
Radio: Virginia Sports Radio Network

Spread: Virginia -10.5
Last Meeting: 2003, UVA 87, Wofford 65

Today's spread opened at -14 in favor of Virginia but has shifted down to anywhere between -11.5 and -9.5. Jontel Evans will not be playing today, missing his ninth game due to a foot injury.

Which then begs the question...as this is the last game before conference play, will Evans seek a medical redshirt to stick around an extra year? The Hoos are pretty stacked for next year as it is already, and having Evans available then likely means an NCAA bid and perhaps a pretty decent run. But what about this year? Does Virginia stand any chance at making the Tournament without Evans? It would seem unlikely.

Plus, as Brian Schwartz points out repeatedly, there's the issue of number of available scholarships for next year -- namely, that we have none.

If you're Bennett, what do you do?

Wofford returns just 39% of its scoring from last season, and the bulk of that is coming from sophomore guard Karl Cochran, who averages 17.9 points per game and was last year's SoCon Freshman of the Year. He is supported by sophomore forward Lee Skinner with 11.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game and freshman guard Spencer Collins, who adds 10.8 points and 3.0 rebounds a game. Like Virginia, Wofford is not expected to start any true centers.
